Today began as usual, albeit on the later side of things since we all got up a bit later than normal. Got to school, checked the emails, had class. In composition we took an exam, and I think it went fairly well. In conversation I got some awesome news! Since my professor was sick yesterday and had her husband (also a professor) put in a movie for us that we were supposed to give a presentation on. But! her husband put in the wrong movie. lol So! my professor said that the presentation is cancelled and that we all get 100% for that grade (which counts for 20% of our overall grade!) Me=Very happy!
Afterwards I walked up to the mall and had a lunch of Pizza Hut (after 3 weeks of rice and beans for every single meal I wanted some pizza!) It was quite nasty in my opinion. Firstly, they only had ham or supreme pizza to choose from. I don’t like anything beyond pepperoni. Secondly, their breadsticks didn’t have the topping stuff on it. And lastly, you couldn’t get a coke with the combo, you had to get Té frío. (Which in the end was decent. It wasn’t really tea. It tasted like Kool-Aid/fruit punch)
After that I did a few things on the Internet there before heading to the Café Kracovia. There I finished off my homework and began to work on my presentation for my composition class. About 3:30 my dad called me on skype and I talked to my parents for about 45 minutes. At four my uncle was supposed to show up and take me out for dinner, but while I was on skype he called my parents and told them that he was running late due to customs.
A grey van pulled up as I was waiting outside my café and out came my uncle, my aunt and my two cousins! My uncle wasn’t really here on business he was here on vacation! Surprised me! Well, it was partly given away beforehand. lol I had emailed my uncle’s work email and gotten an automatic response saying that he was going to be on vacation until the 31st. I thought that was odd, but I thought that because it was automated or what not that it could have been a mistake or something. But then this morning I noticed that my cousin’s status message said that she was going to be in Costa Rica for a week, Then I went and looked at my other cousin’s profile and hers said she was going to the beach...I got suspicious. lol
Anyways, I hopped in the van with them after the greetings and we headed to Escarza…or something along those lines. I need to look up what neighborhood that was. Anyways, it was on the other side of San Jose, but my uncle really liked a Peruvian restaurant that’s he’s been to before over there. We arrived, but learned that it didn’t open until 6:30 and it was 5pm. So we were taken to this large mall across the street. We walked around and went in a few stores. My uncle got all of us a souvenier in one of the shops. I got a very pretty wooden turtle. Gracias Uncle Louie!
At 6:30 the van driver picked us up again and took us back to the restaurant. It was a fairly fancy place. Very fancy considering where I’ve been in Costa Rica. We got an appetizer that had a bit of everything. Andrea and I tasted some of this beef kabob thing. I thought the texture was funny, but it tasted decent. Then I learned that it was cow heart…that grossed me out a bit. I’m going to have to agree with my cousin, eating an animals heart seems almost pagan. Then I had this empanada of beef and potato; it was alright as well. For my meal I got arroz con pollo Peruvian style. My rice was green. lol Although, I’m typically not a fan of cilantro at all, I actually liked my meal. The chicken was good, and I had veggies!!! I’ve been missing vegetables…never thought I’d ever say that! lol Every now and then I might get some carrots or cabbage, but principally you’re given only fruit here. Anyways, mixed into my rice was carrots, peas, and some red veggie. For dessert I had Supriso (sp?) Chocolate. It was very good.
An amusing thing was the mix up in languages. At the restaurant Aunt Marcela kept talking to the waitor in English and then when I was giving directions back home the driver spoke English to me and I ended up responding in Spanish lol Uncle Louie got a pretty good laugh out of that one.
After that we were driven back to Sabanilla and I was dropped off at my house. When I walked through the door Gabi told me she was so worried about me., that I was out so late. (I got back at 9pm) Anyways, I had lots of fun and it was very nice seeing some of my family here and getting to point out some of the places I’ve written about. Well, it’s getting late! G’night!
:-) Rek
